Welcome to Ashbourne Independent Middle School
Ashbourne has been offering education at Years 9,10 and 11 for over 20 years. This is often overshadowed by our excellent reputation as a pre-university school where we have attracted students because of our small class sizes, relaxed university-style environment and exceptional subject choice.

In offering tuition in groups whose size never exceeds 10, the school offers specialist individual attention which gives students the opportunity of achieving their potential. It is a happy school – students enjoy the lively and well-ordered environment and the freedom from the usual restrictions of uniforms and regimentation.

Ashbourne’s students are all able and are selected for their willingness to commit to proper behaviour, courtesy and respect for the school. Thus parents and students should expect to encounter an environment which is purposeful, encouraging and disciplined.

Some of the features of its curriculum are:

• insistence on 100% submission of homework
• extended classroom contact time which allows for the supervision of much work in class
• mock examinations each half-term
• half-termly reports from each of the students’ teachers
• outstanding facilites especially in Art and Design where students may take up fine art, graphic design, photography and fashion
• an excellent programme for drama
• a wonderful location which affords easy access to the many museums and galleries nearby

The school is flexible and is willing to organize programmes to accommodate students who join after the start of term in September. In particular, it offers a specialist, self-contained programme for year 11, the final year for GCSE.

Ashbourne offers an excellent alternative to traditional schools. It is a small school with small classes and so is able to fulfil its promise of individual attention.
