Saturday 13th February
On the Saturday morning we met at the College at the very early time of 4am. With our suitcases ready and packed, we hopped on a coach and began the journey to Heathrow Terminal 5, and then on to Athens.
After arriving in central Athens at about 5.30pm, we made our way to the Athens Style hostel - our home for the next 7 days, where we were welcomed by friendly staff. Although having an interesting arrangement of rooms, the hostel was clean and comfy. To top it off, the hostel had a rooftop bar which had amazing views of the Acropolis which was situated near-by.
After settling at the hostel and unpacking, we gathered for our first night in Athens, and what better way to start than admire the wonderful views of Greece's capital city. We walked up to the Areopagus to overlook the entire city as the sun was setting. Many photos were taken and Hussein gave us a short talk about the significance of the rock we were standing on.
Then it was time for dinner, and after walking through the old market below the Acropolis, we stopped at a traditional Greek restaurant. This was our first experience of the culinary delights; mezze! 12 dishes of delicious traditional Greek food were presented to us and there was all the bread in the world!
By the end of the night, everyone was exhausted, so we went back to chill on the rooftop bar at our hostel. One by one, we went to bed to get a good night's sleep ready for our first full day in Athens.
