Ashbourne European Trip 2010: Athens

Tuesday 16th February

Tuesday was a 'different' day compared to the other days on the trip. We had planned to visit a lot of museums, however due to the beginning of the Orthodox Lent, many places were still closed, so we had to improvise a bit but everyone still had an enjoyable day and we got to explore several different areas of Athens.

We began at the Archaeological Museum to discover more about Ancient Greece. There, Hussein gave us a very interesting talk about what to look out for in the museum and we saw some remarkable statues and engravings dating back to 500BC.

In the afternoon, due to some museums closed, we had a free afternoon. Some students went up Lycabettus Hill to see the stunning views across Athens and others went souvenir shopping.

In the evening, we re-gathered and headed off to Lycabettus Hill to eat at the exclusive restaurant situated at the very top. The food was very different to what we had tasted so far, but the highlight of the evening was by far the outstandingly beautiful views - although Lee and Josie insisted that it looked much better during the day.
