| Drama at Ashbourne has grown into one of the college’s most successful and exciting departments. Headed by James Wykes, Ashbourne offers the AQA A Level, which covers both theoretical and practical aspects of Drama and gives students a good balance between physical performance and academic written work. A unique feature of the course is that Drama students at Ashbourne will see up to 15 productions in a single year at some of London’s outstanding theatre venues. Ashbourne’s commitment to Drama extends beyond academic concerns through its thriving Drama Club which is open to all students.
For over 10 years Ashbourne has produced an annual Revue incorporating Dance, Drama, Music and Fashion. The Revue provides an excellent occasion for Drama students to put their creative skills to the test and work alongside other departments in producing an entertaining and memorable night.
Each January, Ashbourne selects students to study Drama by way of auditions; prospective students are asked to perform a short monologue in front of a panel including containing the Drama tutors at Ashbourne and the Director of Studies. Scholarships, ranging from 10% to 50%, to study at Ashbourne are given to the most able candidates.
Ashbourne aims to open new vistas both in practical terms and in theoretical appreciation, covering a broad spectrum from Greek Tragedy to Pinter. For some it has been a life-changing experience |
