A Level Psychology
Aims
For each student to cover the core topics of the main
examining boards.
To teach and test knowledge, concepts, application, evaluation and interpretation. These are all core skills the examiners in any board are looking to reward.
To apply previously learnt and newly acquired information and skills to past examination questions
To support and improve students’ study skills, revision technique and examination strategy and performance.
Course Design
The course is designed for the AQA specification but contains topics common to the core syllabus of other major boards
Daily Programme
The daily programme consists of an examination of the relevant areas of the syllabus, a summary of the key facts and principles relevant to the area under study, past paper questions and reference, where instructive, to the Chief Examiner’s Reports.
Each morning (except the first) consists of a review and a test of the previous day’s work.
Students will receive a modest amount of homework and a
reading assignment for the following morning’s test.
Final Session
Students will be given a formal examination to conclude the week’s programme and will be given assistance in drawing up a detailed, realistic and effective revision schedule to take them through to the examination. Their test will be marked immediately and discussed individually. A report will be written. Progress made throughout the week is identified as are further improvements which should be made to enhance the prospects of examination success.

Developmental Psychology:
Defining Attachments and the Purposes of Attachments. Categorising Attachments:, Separation, Privation and Deprivation, Cross Cultural Studies in Attachment & Cognitive and Social Effects of Day Care.
Physiological Psychology:
Defining Stress, The Autonomic Nervous System and the Physiology of Stress, The Social readjustment rating scale and other measures, Stress Management Techniques.
Abnormal Psychology:
Defining abnormality: The Statistical Infrequency Model, Deviation form Social Norms, Deviation from Ideal Mental Health and Failure to Function adequately:, Models of Abnormality, Cross Cultural Variations, Eating Disorders,.
Social Psychology:
Definition of Social Psychology: Influence, Minority Influence and Conformity, Obedience to Authority, Ethics in Experimental Psychology.
Research Methods:
Quantative and Qualitative research methods, Experiments (three types), Research design and Data Analysis.
A2 Level
(Unit 5) The Synoptic Paper:
Psychopathologies, Issues and Debates, Applied Psychology.
Students will be able to select any specific options they which to have covered and obtain guidance as to how to prepare for these options. (Unit 4)
