History Of Art

Please note that Ashbourne does not offer this course to study at degree level

Overview

History of Art seeks to understand how and why paintings, sculptures, buildings and works in a variety of media come to look the way they do.

Students will examine the circumstances under which works of art were made, who they were made for, how they were understood, and what function they performed in their original societies. Students will also be trained to identify visual traits and be able to comment on the specific aesthetics of a piece of art using relevant technical vocabulary.
