Host Families

Boarding with a family will appeal to those who wish to experience English family life. Many students bond quickly with their host families, often forming friendships that will continue into adult life.

A homestay is a fantastic choice for students who need to improve their spoken English, new to the city or perhaps just don’t want to live alone as hopefully the student will truly be made to feel like part of the family. The host family are usually  keen to make the student feel as if it is their own home. As with every family, there are different circumstances per host family.

Students wishing to find out more about staying in a host family are advised to contact a guardianship agency. Guardianship agencies are able to offer education guardianship services as well as helping students to find an appropriate host family.
For a list of accredited guardianship agencies, please contact AEGIS. AEGIS is the Association for the Education and Guardianship of International Students and can be contacted via their website:

http://www.aegisuk.net/

Local guardianship agencies include:

Host International
Gabbitas Educational Consultants Ltd

Accommodation must be arranged with these suppliers directly by parents or students who must make adequate checks to ensure they are satisfied with the standard of accommodation provided. This is especially important where a student will be staying in a family environment. Ashbourne does not inspect the host families or guardianship agencies and does not make any guarantee as to the standard or safety of the accommodation provided.  However we have received no complaints about these providers and feedback has generally been very positive.
