Japanese GCSE

Why Study Japanese?

The question might better be phrased, why limit yourself to European Languages when it comes to learning another language? GCSE Japanese will help you develop an understanding of the written forms of the language from a variety of registers, communicate confidently, clearly and imaginatively through the written word (using increasingly accurate, complex and varied language), and develop critical insights into, and contact with, the contemporary society, cultural background and heritage of Japan. GCSE Japanese provides a coherent, satisfying and worthwhile course of study for students who do not progress to further study in the subject, and also provides a sufficient basis for the further study of foreign languages at A-level.

What are the prerequisites?

Students should be motivated hardworking individuals who enjoy the stimulation of a challenge. The course is also suitable for native speakers of Japanese.

What are the aims of the Course?

The aims of the course are to guide students to explore and develop understanding of the contemporary society, cultural background and heritage of Japan. You will read and respond to a variety of written texts from authentic sources and demonstrate flexibility when communicating in writing. You will learn how to use appropriate registers in written communication and manipulate the language accurately to organise facts and ideas.
