| Greenwich Maritime Museum |
Seafaring has always been important to Britain and its maritime history is brought to life in historic Greenwich, which is now a UNESCO world heritage site. Overlooking the town is the Royal Observatory, a monument to navigational research and the original home of GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) and the meridian line. It has recently undergone a £15 million makeover and now houses the London Planetarium. Here you can take a tour of the frozen moons and planets of the Solar System, including the Earth’s polar ice caps. Other museums in the area include; the National Maritime Museum, the Fan Museum, the only museum in the world devoted to fan making and fans and the Cutty Sark, the last ever tea clipper.
