| The British Museum |
Most of the exhibits in London’s most famous museum originated far from these shores. The British Museum is foremost a museum of human history and culture. It is home to over seven million different objects, many of which are thousands of years old. It is most famous for: its mummy room, where the preserved corpses of Egyptian royalty lie in state: the Rosetta Stone, the key to deciphering ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics and the Elgin Marbles, original sculptures from the Parthenon in Greece. There are frequent special exhibitions. Recent visitors to the museum include members of the Terracotta Army. The Museum is on Great Russell Street, near Holborn and Tottenham Court Road Underground Stations.
