Whilst changes to our education system are inevitable, sometimes it can be hard to keep up with everything that is in the pipeline. The latest proposed A level reforms could cause what has been described as an ‘upheaval’, and could lead to some universities having to review their entry requirements. Some of our students did a fantastic job representing Ashbourne College when they took part in UKMT Maths Challenges recently. Now we have even more great news, but this time, it’s related to computing challenges! UK Bebras run contests which focus on computational and logical thinking. Their questions are inspired by topics in computer science, and out of over 39,000 entries, an Ashbourne College student made it into the Hall of Fame! Some of our drama students performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this summer, and now two of our Ashers are in a band set to play a gig at the highly regarded BBC club! Proposed education reforms could make the process of applying to university a little more complicated. The UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT) organises national mathematics competitions in addition to other mathematical activities for 11-18 year old UK school pupils. Each maths challenge leads onto a follow-on Olympiad round, and we’re pleased to announce that our students who took part earlier this month have done extremely well! Congratulations to Jiaming Ning, Yanni She, Quanzhen Guo, Zige Zhang, Xiaoyu Weng and Zheng Liu who have all successfully made it through to the ‘Senior Kangaroo’ challenge.
