The Council for Independent Further Education (Cife) is an association of colleges similar to Ashbourne, which are specialists in getting the best out of students in the final years of pre-university education. Each year Cife awards prizes for academic achievement. Ashbourne has been a member of Cife for over 15 years.
CIFE Academic Awards are presented in a ceremony at the House of Lords by Baroness Perry of Southwark, CIFE President. Lady Perry is an educationalist, and a member of the House of Lords. She chairs the backbench education group, and is a party whip. In the Teaching Excellence debate in 2010, Baroness Perry praised the excellent work of teachers. CIFE Colleges were all delighted by Baroness Perry’s statement that, “An inspirational teacher can literally change lives. At its best, teaching is a magic process that lights up the imagination of young people, draws out their curiosity and gives them lifelong skills and understanding.” The awards winners here are signal proof of the truth of these words and Ashbourne will endeavour to continue to change lives!
