The Allstars went into this top of the table clash having put together a superb winning run since losing their very first game of the season. The team started the game joint top of the table with the opposition, which gave the game some real importance.
The game started with the Allstars really dominating affairs, with shot after shot raining down on the oppositions goal, denied by a mixture of poor finishing and great goalkeeping. What followed was a period of nervous and edgy play which led to many misplaced passes and mistakes being made at the back which could easily have led to a goal against us. But Marwan took hold of the ball midway in our half before commencing a slalom type run which ended with a superb left foot drive into the bottom right hand corner, 1-0 Allstars.
Djordje soon made it 2-0 with a right foot shot that crept under the goalkeeper due to the sheer power behind it. The half ended 2-0 to the Allstars.
We got the boys in at half time and used the time to calm their nerves and got them to be more organised in their defensive play. We started the second half with more dominance, but began to make defensive errors and giving the ball away cheaply, which put us in numerous situations where Illya made save after save to keep us at 2-0.
But some relief was to come as we started a move from back to front and Leonel finished right footed into the bottom left hand corner to make it 3-0 to give us some comfortable breathing space. This caused us to become complacent and careless which led to MPW hitting the back of the net to make it 3-1.
MPW could have had another goal but for the great agility of Illya, who made a string of brilliant saves and a quick counter attack leading to a free kick which Antonio took left footed to make it 4-1. This effectively gave the Allstars the much deserved win they needed to put us a win clear at the top.
The Allstars face Lansdowne College next week at Westway.
