It wasn't meant to be. The Allstars needed a win to ensure a match off in the last game against CIC to see who wins the league.
The boys prepared well and were changed and ready to go on the mini bus.You could feel the adrenaline and the positivity on that bus.
The game got under way and shots from Antonio, Djordje, Marwan and Naeto could easily have put us 4-0 up after 10 mins. Even though we dominated, we conceded a soft goal to go 1-0 down. 1-0 quickly became 2-0 and heads began to go down. The half ended 2-0 to Lansdowne. We got them in and got them going, told them that the game wasn't over, its 0-0 and that we must keep a clean sheet and win the game 3-2.
The boys went out and within 1 minute it was 3-0 to Lansdowne....Now the Allstars needed a miracle.
Yobel came on for Michael and not very long after it was 3-1. Marwan finished emphatically after a great dribble and their manager was already asking how long was left as he knew the Allstars now had momentum. Attack after attack, shot after shot was saved as we rained shots on their goal.
Djordje was freed down the right and he unleashed a cannon pile driver into the bottom left corner to make it 3-2 with 3 minutes to play. With 2 mins to play, Antonio latched on to a knockdown and let rip with a volley that hit the wet surfaced and gathered great speed into the right hand corner to make it 3-3.
With 1 minute left on the clock, we almost won the game - firstly with a shot from Marwan, then Antonio let fly again which the keeper miraculously tipped around the post.
The game ended and the boys knew that the first half performance had let them down and that the league title dream had gone.
We now prepare for our last game of the year against CIC, where we will go out to win and prove that we are the better team. The league will then start again after Xmas where we will once again fight for that elusive title.
