Ashbourne College headed to the tracks for another round of Go Karting!

March 1, 2016

Staff v Student Go Karting is one of Ashbourne’s longest standing activity traditions, and without a doubt one of its most popular. Competitiveness is rife, among the staff as much as the students! Our track of choice is North Greenwich, as they offer fast petrol karts and a long, twisty track, perfect for getting your Fast and Furious style drifting on. For the last session back in November the staff begrudgingly conceded a victory to the students, who took first and second place in both races. Back then we promised them that in the next session they would be going Continue Reading →

Ashbourne College went to Cirque du Soleil, and it was AMAZING!

January 22, 2016

We had all been waiting for months, but one of the most highly anticipated events in the college calendar finally came around on Thursday 21st January 2016… the Cirque du Soleil! Everyone knows that the Canadian circus troupe Cirque du Soleil are at the absolute top of their game, and their 20th Anniversary run of Amaluna left no doubt in anyone’s minds about this fact. Amaluna is notable for the fact that 70% of the cast is female, as well as 100% of the supporting musicians. A story loosely based on Shakespeare’s play The Tempest, Amaluna tells the story of Continue Reading →

Here’s what happened at the Ashbourne College annual trip to Winter Wonderland!

December 14, 2015

Last Thursday 3rd December started off as a cool, cloudy night in London, and 25 staff and students were feeling the Christmas spirit as they set off together for the final trip of the term – Ice Skating at Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland! Winter Wonderland is the best place to be for anyone who loves Christmas, especially on a weeknight. This gives you a chance to avoid the crowds and go at a time where you are actually able to move among the attractions! We arrived just before 7pm to the sound of Christmas music and the swish of skates Continue Reading →

Another amazing trip to the Go Karting track for Ashbourne College London!

December 1, 2015

Zoooooooom! The Go Karting was off to a start. 23 students and four tutors raced down to Go Karting in North Greenwich for a night of fun and competitive spirit! Spirits were high as we raced round the track and everyone got used to their karts. The group was split into two for the qualifiers, then the score times were tallied and we had two separate finals. It gave students an opportunity to have two goes around the track and have their chance to shine. Lucas Frayssinet took first place in the fast race, (not that we hold his past Continue Reading →

Ashbourne College trip to see WICKED at London’s Apollo Theatre!

November 24, 2015

On the 19th November, a group of Ashers went on a wonderful trip to defy gravity at the Victoria Apollo theatre – the spectacular production of Wicked! The hype for this trip had been pretty substantial, and a varied group of students (and staff!) showed interest in going. For most, it was their first time experiencing multiple award winning phenomenon that is Wicked, and so it was in high spirits that we set off on the bus to travel down to the theatre. Well, what can we say about the show itself? It was absolutely incredible! The acting was superb, Continue Reading →

Ashbourne College trip to see Michael McIntyre!

October 28, 2015

On the 21st October 2015, Ashbourne had its first open evening of the year. It was a great success, with many families attending and hopefully a lot of prospective Ashers! Many of our wonderful students gave up their time after their lessons had finished in order to help us to pull off the whole evening without a hitch. The very next day, many of those same tired but very excited students returned again after their classes, but this time for a decidedly more comical evening – a trip to watch the wonderful British comedian Michael McIntyre! We journeyed together to Continue Reading →

Romeo and Juliet at the Royal Opera House

October 9, 2015

We recently took our students to see Romeo and Juliet the ballet at the Royal Opera House in London. The students were accompanied by a selection of staff from across the faculties and it really felt like a momentous occasion. Our principal Mike Kirby accompanied our students to watch this wonderful piece of living art. The dancers were flawless, such amazing technique and poise simply mesmerised the audience. The orchestra was beyond brilliant, as a ballet has no dialogue the music more than made up for it. The ballet lasted three hours and there were two intervals, giving our students Continue Reading →

Ashbourne College trip to see War Horse

October 8, 2015

On Wednesday the 7th of October, a small group of Ashbourne students travelled to the buzzing centre of Holborn to watch the hit theatre production of War Horse, performed by the National Theatre at the New London Theatre in Drury Lane. They were accompanied by Ben, Maths Teacher extraordinare and big theatre fan, and Steph, the Activities Coordinator who cried throughout the entire film adaptation and had no idea why she was about to put herself through the same ordeal in live action. The seats procured were excellent – right in front of the stage, but at eye level with Continue Reading →

What you missed at Staff vs. Student Bowling last month!

October 1, 2015

The first trip of the term went off with a SMASH at the Staff vs. Student bowling. It was a great chance for the teachers both to catch up with OLD students and meet their new ones. The teams were a mix of teachers and students, which is a different take on previous years but helped build rapport between the students. The director of studies also made an appearance and blew the students away with his superb bowling technique. Anh from the admissions team even brought her own bowling shoes (someone was keen). Students were stuffed with pizza and chips Continue Reading →
