About us

Ashbourne helps students build their self-confidence both personally and academically so they may take responsibility for their own success and achieve the very best results.

Outstanding results and university destinations

Ashbourne was founded 1981 and has since grown into one of the best private sixth form colleges in London for A levels and GCSEs. Our students consistently achieve outstanding A level exam results, (66% A*/A 2021), helping us to remain in the top two of similar private high schools in London for many years. Ashbourne adds value; our results are in the top 5% of students with similar prior achievements. More than half of our graduates go on to study at Russell Group universities, including Oxford and Cambridge.

Choice, flexibility and independence

We work closely with each student to carve out a unique education programme that best suits their needs and ambitions, offering them the flexibility, choice and comprehensive support and guidance necessary to reach their goals. Students can choose from a wide selection of A level subjects and course lengths and receive tailored and expert guidance on applying to university.

Ashbourne embraces a friendly, informal but disciplined, adult approach to education. Students take lessons in small groups where they are encouraged to explore and test their ideas with the teacher and other students, becoming more independent thinkers. The small class sizes enable our teachers to offer greater individual attention, set more homework and provide feedback.

Pupils respect their teachers. They enjoy professional relationships. Staff have high aspirations for all pupils. In return, pupils are ambitious and driven to achieve the best possible results. Outstanding Ofsted Report, 2021.

Individual attention

Class sizes are restricted to fewer than 10, so students receive a very high level of individual attention. In addition, they are offered extensive support outside of the classroom through weekly personal tutor sessions, subject-specific clinics, support classes and peer group mentoring. They work closely with their teachers, personal tutors and the Director of Studies to monitor and discuss their academic performance and progress throughout their time at the college.

Personal tutors also provide one-to-one support and expert guidance on the entire university application process, including work on Unifrog, an online platform that allows students to continue working on their university applications remotely.

The college complements its academic excellence with an exciting programme of extra-curricular events and activities for all tastes including its well-loved annual Revue, showcasing creative arts and music. We run Ashbourne Allstars football club, critical theory seminars and a wide range of other clubs from astro-particle physics and chess to Bollywood dancing and meditation.

Superb Kensington location

Ashbourne is superbly located on the borders of Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens, in the heart of London. A fantastic selection of world-class venues and attractions are within walking distance from the college including the Natural History Museum, the Science Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Royal Albert Hall. Major libraries, art galleries and theatres are also within easy reach of the college as well as shopping in Kensington and Knightsbridge.

We welcome students from all over the world, making Ashbourne an exciting and diverse place to learn.
