Ashbourne High School, London
International students

Ashbourne is one of the best private high schools in London and has been delivering highly successful A level courses for more than 35 years. We offer outstanding opportunities to students who will benefit from the individual support, choice and flexibility we provide to help students reach the highest grades and achieve their personal and academic goals.

  • Outstanding university preparation
  • 54% at Russell Group universities
  • Excellent pastoral care
  • Superb location

Ashbourne is hosting a series of subject-specific webinars during our Virtual Open Week and throughout the month of June to give prospective A level students and parents an idea of what it is like to study at the college. Each webinar is delivered by our specialist subject teachers who explain how the A level programme works and what is involved in studying each subject, as well as answering your questions. The Director of Studies, Lee Kirby, has also produced two webinars you can watch explaining how A levels work and the UK university applications process.

Ashbourne students consistently achieve excellent exam results which has helped Ashbourne remain in the top two of similar private high schools in London for many years. More than 50% of our graduates go on to study at world-class Russell Group universities including Oxford and Cambridge, Imperial College, University College London and LSE. These results are truly a credit to our ambitious, determined and hard working students and the dedication and professionalism of our teachers.

Ashbourne embraces a friendly, informal and adult approach to learning, much like a university, which we believe encourages independent thinking, discipline and high expectations. Lessons are taught in small groups of fewer than ten students which allows teachers to focus on individual student’s needs, provide valuable feedback and set more assignments. This small-class environment is ideal for students to fully engage with the topics and develop their understanding of the subject. Half-termly mock exams help students and teachers assess progress and identify areas to work on. Exam technique is crucial, we believe, to getting the best results.

Each A level student is assigned a dedicated Personal Tutor who provides individual academic and pastoral support and guidance throughout their time at Ashbourne, which includes expert careers advice and one-to-one UCAS support, from choosing the right course, interview practice all the way to accepting the best offer. We also offer specialised university application programmes for competitive courses such as Medicine, Engineering, Finance and related courses and entry to Oxford and Cambridge Universities.

Students can choose from an excellent range of A level subject choices, without restriction, and course types including Two-year A level courses, One-year A level courses, 18-month A level courses, A level Easter Revision courses and GCSE courses.

Ashbourne is situated in a beautiful part of London next to Kensington Palace and Hyde Park close to a wide variety of world-famous cultural attractions including museums, theatres, galleries, institutions and libraries. We attract students from all over the world making the college a vibrant, diverse and exciting place to learn.

Ashbourne is a fee-paying school but we also offer a limited number of scholarships to highly gifted and talented students.

Why Choose Ashbourne College?

Choosing to study at Ashbourne was one of my best decisions because I was so well cared for both academically and personally. This was especially true in preparing for my interview at Cambridge, for which I received a lot of help from my Personal Tutor

Gained responsibility and independence and has a mature approach to their studies
Ashbourne is a wonderful place to teach and an even better place to study. The staff treat the students as adults and the mutual respect results in a relaxed university approach to study. Teaching classes that only have a max of 10 allows for individual tuition and greater differentiation within the groups helping the students grow in confidence and develop a love for their subjects. I really like the fact that students are encouraged to refer to their tutors by their first name and feel that this breaks down tutor/student boundaries and means that the students are confident in asking for help. Brilliant students, brilliant tutors, great place to work
