What is the TMUA?

What is the TMUA?

The TMUA (Test of Mathematics for University Admission) is a maths-based admissions test that some universities now require for entry to certain courses. It’s designed to assess your ability to think mathematically, not just solve problems, but reason clearly and apply logic in unfamiliar situations.

The test has two parts: one focused on mathematical reasoning, and the other on applying maths in problem-solving scenarios. It’s not about memorising formulas, it’s about how you approach challenging questions under pressure.

If the course you’re applying to lists TMUA as a requirement, it will play an important role in your application. The test is usually taken in the autumn of Year 13, so it’s worth preparing early.

At Ashbourne, we help students prepare for tests like the TMUA through targeted practice and expert support. If you’d like help getting ready, get in touch.
