Limited Places for 25/26

The journey towards a fulfilling A-level experience is not always straightforward. Some students may need to join us after September, and spaces often become available as students reduce their AS subjects from four to three.

New Places Released After September

Our Year 12 students typically begin with four AS-level subjects. Whilst most degree programmes require three subjects to meet entry requirements, starting with four provides our students with flexibility and time to decide which three to pursue. Although the option remains open to continue with all four, and many do (for example, by taking A-level Mathematics in Year 12 and Further Mathematics in Year 13), a large number choose to discontinue one during the first term.

This flexibility in our admissions process ensures that students not already at Ashbourne can still apply to join our supportive and high-achieving community throughout the academic year.

Late Entry Scenarios

After the start of term, it is not unusual for students to transfer to Ashbourne for a variety of reasons.

Some students, despite strong academic performance, discover that the social environment at their current school is not the right fit. Others continue into the sixth form of a school they have attended since childhood, only to realise they want a different experience at this stage of their education.

In some cases families relocate and need to find a high-quality school in central London or closer to home. In other cases, students may find the academic support at their current school insufficient or the transition to A-levels more challenging than expected. For them, our smaller class sizes, supportive environment, and personalised teaching approach offer the right environment for academic success.

Application Process

If you are considering a late application, we encourage you to contact our admissions team as soon as possible.

This allows us to check subject availability and exam board compatibility before moving forward. Where there is a suitable fit, applicants are asked to provide a copy of their passport and a short personal statement, and to attend an interview and admissions tests. We arrange these promptly and provide a decision quickly, ensuring the process is as efficient as possible.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. Can students join Ashbourne after the academic year has started?
Yes. Because of Ashbourne’s flexible timetable and subject structure, students may be able to join mid-year if spaces are available in their chosen subjects.

2. How selective is Ashbourne?
Ashbourne is a selective college. Every student goes through an interview process, and in some cases, a second interview. This ensures the college environment is filled with motivated students who are committed to striving for excellence.

3. What kind of support do students receive from staff?
Students benefit from a highly personalised approach. Staff and students are on a first-name basis, and even the Director of Studies and Principal aim to know each student individually. This ensures tailored academic and pastoral support throughout their journey.

4. How big are classes at Ashbourne?
Class sizes are deliberately small, usually fewer than 10 students per class, ensuring that each student receives focused attention and support.
