Why do an Easter Revision course in English Literature at Ashbourne?

The course leader for the English Literature Revision Course is Katie Pettit. Students will benefit from her vast and diverse experience as well as the individual attention which is a key feature of the Ashbourne Easter Revision programme.

There will be revision in the following areas:

Unit 1

Unit 1 focuses on two prose texts, one text from Literary Heritage and one text from Different Cultures and Traditions. In this case, the chosen texts are Animal Farm and Of Mice and Men respectively. Students will look at key themes of both texts in relation to their social contexts, exploring how form and language can shape meaning.

Unit 2

Unit 2 is divided into two sections, one from the EDEXCEL prescribed anthology of poetry. In this case, we will explore selected poems from the theme, “Somewhere, Anywhere”. These poems introduce students to the intricacies of analysing poetry through a variety of contemporary and classic poets. The second section will involve an unseen poem, challenging students in their ability to analyse technical details in relation to major themes.
