Trips from Ashbourne College, London

Ashbourne College organises a variety of trips throughout the year, some purely academic, others only fun, but mostly both!

Academic Trips

A variety of academic, subject-specific trips are conducted throughout the year. This approach integrates academic studies with the outside world and enhances a student’s critical understanding of their subject. Trips include:

Geography and Biology field trips

The Geography department takes a week-long trip field trip to Blencathra in the Lake District.

In November, the Biology department takes a week-long field trip to the Algarve in Portugal – a vital but also enjoyable part of the Biology curriculum. The A2 biology team will work very hard to get to know the numerous new and exciting ecosystems they are coming across and carry out their individual investigations, but will also enjoy walks along the beautiful dunes and beaches of the Algarve. Delicious Portuguese food and lots of fun are also on the menu!

Art trips

The Art department organises several trips to museum and art galleries in London throughout the year. Past trips have included the nearby V&A Museum, the Saatchi Gallery and the National Portrait Gallery.

The Art department also runs a two-night residential trip in the autumn to a culturally and artistically important European city. Past trips have included Vienna and Paris. Students visit museums, galleries and important landmarks and monuments, taking notes and drawing sketches. The trip is a wonderful source of inspiration as well as a memorable experience, without forgetting lots of fun!

Languages Trip

The Language department organizes yearly trips to European countries such as Spain and France. Previous trips have included Santiago da Compostela, the fascinating medieval pilgrimage city in the north-west of Spain.

Musical Theatre Trips

Ashbourne College organises regular trips to see musicals and operas. This is an excellent opportunity for students to widen their cultural horizons and always makes for a fun and colourful evening! Students will get to see some of London’s finest venues, such as the London Coliseum, as well as developing a taste for the West End theatreland, home of a renowned musical theatre scene. Past trips have included Wicked, West Side Story and La Traviata.

Drama Trips

As part of Ashbourne’s ongoing commitment to its Drama and Theatre Studies course, drama students have an amazing opportunity to see some of the best plays that London has to offer within the course of the year.

Every year, the Ashbourne Drama department makes an average of 12-15 trips to some of London’s most famous theatres, including The Royal Court, The National Theatre and The Old Vic. This is a vital feature of drama at Ashbourne as our students get to see arguably the best contemporary productions in the world. The purpose of these regular trips to the theatre is to broaden and enhance the student’s appreciation of drama in all its variety. Drama students have found these trips invaluable and eye-opening.

The trips are compulsory for Drama students, who are asked to take notes about each production, which they discuss with their drama teacher in the following lesson.
