Ashbourne’s Online Distance Learning Programme

Ashbourne’s Online Distance Learning (ODL) Programme was first established in March 2020 to make it possible for our students to continue their full timetable of A level and GCSE classes whilst the college premises were closed, in compliance with UK Government regulations to help reduce the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19). The ODL Programme enables our students to carry on their education with as little disruption as possible. All online lessons can be delivered live-stream through a class-wide audio-visual call by their teachers using Google Meet. This allows students to see and hear their teacher, engage with their teachers and classmates and view on-screen illustrations of examples and learning materials provided by the teacher to support the lesson.

Our teachers can also set and collect homework using Google Classroom. Students submit their work via this platform which can then be reviewed in lesson time or through personal feedback online. Class assignments, subject tests and mocks can also be set via the platform. Teachers and students are able to monitor work completion and progress using this platform.

Ashbourne has additionally developed complementary online resources, such as video lectures, for extra revision to support our students and provided access to Unifrog, an online platform that allows students to continue working on their university applications remotely, with expert guidance and support from their teachers.

Ashbourne’s Online Distance Learning Programme continues to run during periods of lockdown and, when the premises are open, for students who are unable to attend classes in person for specific reasons relating to COVID-19. Overseas students will be able to take part in lessons, conducted by the teacher in the classroom with the rest of the class, using our online learning platform and resources.

We believe that our Online Distance Learning Programme will enable students from all over the world to benefit from Ashbourne’s high quality tuition, exceptional individual attention and personalised support, allowing them to reach the highest grades.

Why Choose Ashbourne College?

Studying at Ashbourne helped me to explore new horizons in art and discover the diverse culture of London. Two years of A-level program have provided me with a knowledge of various Textiles and Fine Art techniques which I hope would be taken further within my specialist area at the university. History of Art helped to develop analytical skills which are absolutely necessary in order to formulate my aesthetic. Now I hope to find my own way within the broad Fashion industry

Treated with kindness and respect whilst being taught to grow as an individual personally and academically
Ashbourne is a wonderful place to teach and an even better place to study. The staff treat the students as adults and the mutual respect results in a relaxed university approach to study. Teaching classes that only have a max of 10 allows for individual tuition and greater differentiation within the groups helping the students grow in confidence and develop a love for their subjects. I really like the fact that students are encouraged to refer to their tutors by their first name and feel that this breaks down tutor/student boundaries and means that the students are confident in asking for help. Brilliant students, brilliant tutors, great place to work
