A level courses at Ashbourne

A levels are the primary qualification for entry into UK universities, with each university setting their own specific requirement depending on the subject and course offered. Students typically study for their A levels over two consecutive years taking the final examinations at the end of the course.

Ashbourne offers a wide selection of A level subject choices, without restriction, and length of course including one-year, 18-month and two-year A levels so that students have as much choice and flexibility as they need to pursue their personal and academic goals.

Ambitious and hardworking students will benefit from the huge amount of individual support and guidance we offer both in the classroom and through our personal tutoring system. Our small class sizes make it easier for students to engage fully and for teachers to focus on individual students, provide feedback and set more assignments. Students receive significantly more teaching hours than is typical so they can complete the syllabus in a relaxed and confident manner with plenty of time for revision at the end of the course. They also sit mock exams, based on previous exam papers, each half term followed by constructive feedback. Ashbourne places great emphasis on teaching exam technique which we believe is critical to achieving the best A level results.

Ashbourne students consistently achieve excellent exam results and more than 50% go on to Russell Group universities. We believe that building students’ confidence is critical to their success so every Ashbourne A level student is assigned a dedicated Personal Tutor who provides individual academic and pastoral support and guidance throughout their time at the college. This includes expert careers advice and one-to-one UCAS support, from choosing the right course, writing a compelling personal statement, getting the application completed and submitted in good time to interview technique and accepting the best offer. Personal Tutors will help set up additional English language lessons and tests, if appropriate. Ashbourne also offers specialised university application programmes for competitive courses such as Medicine and Engineering and entry to Oxford and Cambridge.

Our friendly, informal and adult approach to education encourages students to think independently, develop self-discipline and set high expectations in preparation for university and beyond.

Ashbourne is situated in a fantastic part of London, close to many world-class venues and establishments, and we attract students from all over the world, making the college a vibrant and exciting place to learn.
