A Level Intensive Courses

Ashbourne’s intensive courses offer you the flexibility, individual attention and comprehensive support to attain the highest grades.

Excellent results for ambitious students

Ashbourne offers outstanding opportunities for ambitious and hardworking students.

We have been delivering highly successful intensive courses for many years and our students consistently achieve excellent results, 54% A*A (2022-2023), helping to make us one of the best A level colleges in London.

More than half of our graduates go on to study at world-class universities including UCL, Imperial, Oxford and Cambridge.

Choice and flexibility

You can choose from 25 A level subjects and different course lengths to create an educational programme that best suits your needs.

For example, you could follow the traditional two-year A level programme and choose any subject without restriction. Or design a GCSE programme that will take you all the way to A level. You may decide to start afresh, dropping a subject studied previously and taking up a new one to complete in one year.

Individual attention and exam focus

Class sizes at Ashbourne are small, usually fewer than 10, making it perfect for you to engage effectively and for your teachers to offer plenty of one-to-one attention.

This creates an ideal environment for you to explore and test out ideas so you can become an independent thinker.

We offer significantly more teaching hours than is typical in most schools so that you can can complete the syllabus in a relaxed and confident manner with plenty of time for revision at the end of the course.

Staff have high aspirations for all pupils. In return, pupils are ambitious and driven to achieve the best possible results.

Outstanding Ofsted Report, 2021.

Teachers are able to set more assigned work and provide tailored support to help you progress.

Each half term you sit mock exams, based on previous exam papers, followed by constructive feedback.

Ashbourne places great emphasis on teaching exam technique which we believe is critical to achieving the best results.

University-style education

Ashbourne is different from traditional schools. We embrace a friendly, informal but disciplined approach to education.

You take a key role in developing your educational pathway and work closely with your teachers, Personal Tutor and Head of Year to build confidence and develop the skills needed to reach your goal.

Your dedicated Personal Tutor provides individual academic and pastoral support and guidance throughout your time at the college.

This includes expert careers advice and one-to-one UCAS support, from choosing the right course to interview practice all the way to accepting the best offer.

Ashbourne offers specialised university programmes for anyone wishing to apply for competitive courses such as Medicine, Engineering and Finance, and entry to Oxford or Cambridge universities.

Student happiness and welfare

Student happiness is our most important goal. We offer an extensive support network to help you feel secure and confident, which importantly contributes towards your academic performance.

As part of our adult-approach to education we expect everyone to show respect, tolerance and collaborate with each other in order to make the college a friendly, safe and dynamic place to learn.

Extracurricular
The hugely popular Ashbourne Revue, which showcases creative talent, is just one of the highlights of the academic year you can take part in.

We organise plenty of clubs, activities and events for all tastes which offer a great opportunity to make new friends, explore new areas and practise your skills.
